With access to 175 on net LATAs, Call 48 has spent the money, gone through the extensive regulatory and technological process, taken the time to register with each individual state, county and local municipality in the effort to get you the phone numbers that you need when you need them. As a result, Call 48 offers wholesale origination coverage of the United States with DIDS from 175 LATAs and 13,000 rate centers.
It sounds really impressive, right? So while we brag about our LATA numbers you might find yourself asking… what’s a LATA?
LATA stands for Local Access and Transport Area, and refers to the geographical area of the United States assigned to telecommunications companies. Rather than drawn around states or area code designations, LATA boundaries are drawn by markets.
Within each LATA are rate centers, which can encompass multiple area codes. They determine the boundaries for local calling, billing and assigning phone numbers. Some LATAs cross over state boundaries and others exist in multiple area codes. Typically a call within a rate center is local, while a call from one rate center to another may be considered a long-distance call. Although city names can often match rate center names, cities and rate centers are not a one-to-one match.
So what does this mean to you?
As a wholesale customer of CAll 48, you will find LATAs valuable when purchasing DIDs from our CPaaS enabled customer platform VoIP Portal. You can place an order utilizing LATA, which narrows your search to boundaries of that geographical area.
